Bill Mechanic’s career is closely tied to pivotal growth periods at two of the world's leading entertainment empires: Disney and Fox Filmed Entertainment.

At Disney, he was responsible for international theatrical distribution, home video, and pay television worldwide. Under his leadership, Disney's home entertainment division grew from $30 million in revenue to over $3 billion. He also founded Buena Vista International, propelling it to the number one position in the industry within its first full year of operation.

As Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, Mechanic helped transform Fox from a struggling studio into the global box office leader in total revenue by 1998.

He directly oversaw the production, marketing, and distribution of numerous acclaimed films, including Independence Day, Moulin Rouge!, Cast Away, Minority Report, Speed, True Lies, Boys Don’t Cry, The Thin Red Line, and William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.

Notably, Mechanic supervised the production of Titanic, the blockbuster that won a record-tying 11 Academy Awards and became the highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. In total, Fox films earned 82 Oscar nominations during his tenure.

After transitioning to independent producing, Mechanic continued to make his mark through his production company, Pandemonium. Notable projects include Hacksaw Ridge, which received six Oscar nominations - including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor - and won two Academy Awards. The animated feature Coraline earned an Oscar nomination and won a BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film. He also co-produced the 82nd Academy Awards, a broadcast that received multiple Emmy nominations.

Mechanic also served two terms on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization behind the Oscars. Additionally, he has held key positions at prestigious international film festivals, including Berlin, Venice, Tokyo, and Camerimage.

On the occasion of Bill Mechanic’s visit to Da Nang for DANAFF IV, the Organizing Committee is proud to present a special Masterclass led by the legendary producer himself. Drawing from extensive experience spanning film production, studio management, international distribution, and global entertainment branding strategy, Bill Mechanic will provide practical insights into how a cinematic project is conceived, developed, and brought to audiences worldwide.
