Synopsis

After nine days, Martha, an illegal Indonesian migrant worker in Sabah, Malaysia, was finally repatriated. It fulfills Abram’s last message to his wife, Orpa, “Therewill be no funeral until Martha returns.” Martha’s return brings great happiness to the family,particularly Orpa and their youngest daughter,Berta. However, upon returning, Martha is in a different condition after two years of working abroad. Something happened toher during her time as a palm oil laborer. Orpa, as the head of the family, has had to become a strong and resilient mother. With patience, she works on restoring Martha’smental well-being and supports their two daughters.

Director’s biography

Jeremias Nyangoen (born in 1968) is an Indonesian actor and screenwriter. Jeremias is known for his role as the Indonesian cannibal character, Sumanto, in the film Kanibal in 2004. In 2023, Jeremias directed Women From Rote Island as his directorial debut. This film succeeded in winning many awards including the Best Film and the Best Director at the 2023 Indonesian Film Festival.
