Following the success of the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF I, 2023), the second Da Nang Asian Film Festival (The 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival – DANAFF II) with the theme “Asia’s Bridge” is organized by City People’s Committee. Directed by Da Nang, the Vietnam Cinema Development Promotion Association (VFDA) presides and coordinates with the Department of Culture and Sports and other departments and branches of the city. Da Nang, UNI Media Company, Vietnamese and international organizations implemented. DANAFF II will take place from July 2-6, 2024 in City. Danang.
DANAFF II still maintains the program framework of a professional festival with the Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony and awards broadcast live on VTV, relayed by Da Nang Television and other television stations across the country; Asian and Vietnamese film competition program with valuable prizes; Today’s Vietnamese Cinema Program introduces selected, newly produced Vietnamese films; Selected film program of Da Nang; Focus program on a country’s cinema; Movie introduction program by famous international guests; International Conferences and Seminars; Exchange of artists with the audience; Workshop “Nurturing talent”; Visiting monuments, scenic spots, promoting filming locations…
In particular, for the first time in Vietnam, DANAFF II will award the Cinema Achievement Award to an excellent filmmaker who has made many contributions to cinema. The Film Achievement Award will be maintained annually.
The organizers open registration for all filmmakers and studios submitting films to attend DANAFF II, starting from December 19, 2023.
The Asian Film category includes feature-length films (over 70 minutes) from cinemas in the Asia-Pacific region. The film will be produced from February 2023 to March 2024. Last registration deadline is March 15, 2024.
The Vietnamese Film category includes Vietnamese feature films, produced from February 2023 to April 2024. Last registration deadline is April 30, 2024.
The category “Vietnamese Cinema Today” includes Vietnamese films with feature length (over 70 minutes), produced from January 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024. Last registration deadline is April 30, 2024.
The Organizing Committee will set up a Selection Council to decide on films for the Film Competition and “Vietnamese Cinema Today” categories.
DANAFF II has 3 Jury Panels: Asian Film Jury, Vietnamese Film Jury and NETPAC Jury. Participating in the Jury are famous Vietnamese and international experts, stars, and filmmakers.

Asian Film categories (decided by the Asian Film Jury), include:
- Best Movie Award (115 million VND, equivalent to 5,000 USD).
- Special Prize of the Jury (70 million VND, equivalent to 3,000 USD).
- Best director (46 million VND, equivalent to 2,000 USD).
- Best male actor (46 million VND, equivalent to 2,000 USD).
- Best actress (46 million VND, equivalent to 2,000 USD).
- Best script (46 million VND, equivalent to 2,000 USD).
Vietnamese Film categories for competition (decided by the Vietnamese Film Jury Board), include:
- Best Movie Award (70 million VND).
- Special Prize of the Jury (40 million VND).
- Best director (20 million VND).
- Best male actor (20 million VND).
- Best female lead actress (20 million VND).
- Best script (20 million VND).
The NETPAC Award for excellent Vietnamese film is decided by the NETPAC Jury, selected from the Vietnamese Film Contest, without prize money.
Audience Award for the most favorite Vietnamese film voted by the audience among the films participating in the “Vietnamese Cinema Today” Program, without prize money.
The Film Achievement Award is a DANAFF Cup, without prize money.
The DANAFF II organizing committee said it will accept film registrations to attend the festival until March 15, 2024 for Asian films and until April 30, 2024 for Vietnamese films. In 2023, City People’s Committee. Da Nang coordinated with the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Film Development (VFDA) to successfully organize the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF I, May 9-13, 2023), also the first festival organized by a locality. Coordinate with Professional Associations according to new regulations of the Cinema Law. With the theme “DANAFF – Asia’s Bridge”, the festival brings the quintessence of Asian and world cinema to Vietnam, while introducing to friends and colleagues the vivid image of Vietnam through selected Vietnamese films, creating connections with the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
During 5 days, DANAFF I held exciting events: Opening and Closing Ceremony – Awarding awards with rich cinematic colors, effectively promoting the image of Da Nang and Vietnam; 89 screenings attracted tens of thousands of audiences; more than 30 meetings and interactions with the film crew; Outdoor movie screening program and interaction with film crew at APEC Park; Exchange famous artists with the audience; 02 Workshops “Building a favorable filmmaking environment in Da Nang” and “Japanese cinema – successful experiences and directions for production cooperation with Vietnam”; Workshop “Nurturing talent” with 02 basic and advanced acting classes instructed by foreign experts; Program to visit Da Nang scenic spots. Events and activities are organized professionally and methodically, creating an atmosphere of creative excitement and leaving a good impression.
DANAFF I was attended by nearly 800 delegates and guests, including Party and State Leaders; Leaders of Departments, Ministries, Sectors, and Cities. Asia News Network page affirmed “DANAFF connects and creates opportunities for artists in general and filmmakers in particular to exchange experiences and ideas to develop Vietnamese cinema. This is a special festival for art enthusiasts.”

DANAFF I was organized methodically and professionally, creating an exciting atmosphere for delegates and audiences along with the coronation of the Vietnamese film Children in the Mist (the debut film of young director Ha Le Diem) with an award. DANAFF I – “Best Asian Film Award” has left a beautiful mark on Vietnamese cinema on the path of regional and international integration.
