Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, screenwriter, painter, and musician. After graduating in Painting, he started making telefilms and soon became one of the major voices of Bangladesh New Wave films. Sumon’s debut feature film HAWA (2022) was Bangladesh’s entry for the Oscars and reached the US top chart in 2022.
Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is a Bangladeshi director and screenwriter known for his work in television dramas such as Ami Orupar Kache Jacchi, as well as in commercial advertising before transitioning into feature filmmaking. In 2022, Sumon made his feature debut with Hawa, a film that quickly gained attention across South Asia for its folkloric storytelling style and distinctive mystical atmosphere. In the same year, he also participated in the anthology project Ei Muhurte, released on streaming platforms. Across his works, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon frequently explores the relationship between human beings, spirituality, and rural Bangladeshi life through a cinematic language rich in symbolism and emotional depth.
