Hung, a 45-year-old taxi driver, lives alone with his two daughters, Han (17) and My (6). When little My is diagnosed with a severe liver condition requiring urgent surgery, Hung finds himself unable to afford the medical expenses. Desperate to save his daughter, he risks the last keepsake left by his late wife in a gamble for quick money, only to lose everything - including his eldest daughter’s trust. Driven into a corner, Hung joins forces with Vinh, a 19-year-old aspiring TikToker hungry for fame, and Tuan, a 37-year-old colleague whose life has been ruined by gambling. Together, they fabricate the image of a “hero” in order to exploit the goodwill of the public for financial gain. However, as their deception grows larger and attracts increasing attention, the situation slowly spirals beyond their control.
Vo Thach Thao (born 1983 in Hue) is a prominent Vietnamese director celebrated for her string of successful television series. She has made a significant mark on the industry with hit titles including Gao nep gao te, Cay tao no hoa, Before we get married, Co Tham ve lang, Danh thuc uoc mo, and Cha va con gai. Earlier in her career, her short film Toi chi can co the won the prestigious Golden Kite Award in 2006. After years of acclaimed work in television, she marks her feature film directorial debut with Mr. Hero (2026), a social drama that tackles the dark repercussions of social media and online charity scams.
