Da Nang Asian Film Festival comes back with its second edition accompanied by a diverse selection of Asian films including films premiered for the first time in Asia or even the world, alongside with seasoned films that have attained a collection of achievements. There are films by young directors and debut films alongside with films by renowned filmmakers. In addition to mainstream films catering to a wide audience, there are also exclusive indie films that offer a more niche viewing experience. DANAFF made this particular choice for theact that as a new film festival, it has very diverse audience groups and has not yet formed its specific audience. Had the festival made the choice for only one genre of film, either “indie” or “mainstream”. It would not have met the aspirations of many people who look forward to coming and participating in our events.
Among the 13 Asian in competition, India, Korea, Iran, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia each contributed one film; Both Japan and Vietnam have 02 films selected. Under such a commercial-focused film industry, Vietnam’s two participating films are quite special for the fact that both are art films with distinct creative personalities, and are also first feature films of two young directors who have been honored at several prestigious film festivals: Cu li never cries by Pham Ngoc Lan and Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell by Pham Thien An. DANAFF II’s Award will help Asian filmmakers leave a mark on the film scene, finger-crossed.
It is our hope that the awards of DANAFF II will help our selected filmmakers leave their remarks on the cinematic geography.
